The two Ukrainians who were killed with melee weapons in a shopping center in the German city of Murnau, in Upper Bavaria on Saturday evening, were military personnel, DPA reported, citing its sources in Kiev. Shortly after the murder, the police arrested a 57-year-old Russian man.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has instructed his diplomats to follow the case with particular attention and to maintain contact with the German security services so that the perpetrator can be punished to the full extent of the law. C. "Ukrainian Pravda" reported that Kuleba thanked the German authorities for the arrest.
The police said today that there is currently no evidence that the crime is related to the Russian war in Ukraine, which Russian President Vladimir Putin started on February 24, 2022, DPA notes.
The murdered Ukrainian citizens, who are 23 and 36 years old, lived in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. They died as a result of stab wounds, with the older one dying on the spot and the younger one dying shortly after being taken to hospital.
Data from the investigation indicate that the three men knew each other, a police spokesman said, adding that a number of details about the case are yet to be clarified.
