Commissions describe the losses of farmers after the hailstorm in southern Bulgaria. The victims of the disaster were both vegetable growers and farmers with vineyards and rose growers. People from the Sliven village of Banya are extremely worried. They are demanding changes to anti-hail missile sites. From there, they explained that in the last 25 years, such a large hail cell has occurred only 3 times.

The damage from the hailstorm in southern Bulgaria worried the farmers from the Sliven village of Banya. Commissions are expected that will describe the losses of farmers with massifs affected by the disaster.

The hailstorm hit agricultural areas in Plovdiv, Starozagorsk and Sliven. In places, the ice chunks fell from the sky for 20 minutes.

"The situation is really crushing, the hail destroyed people's work since the beginning of the year, we will not harvest this year from our vineyards, maybe very little," explained one of the victims.

"Personally, I have been a farmer for 3-4 years, and in the event of such a natural disaster, at the moment, they are setting me back three years, as if I am starting from scratch," Mariyan Kurdov from the village of Banya told BNT.

The representatives of the Hail Combat Agency explained that the cause of the heavy hail in southern Bulgaria is the formation of a supercell of clouds, an extremely rare natural phenomenon. In the last 25 years, there have been only 3 similar cases.

"The only thing that can be done is with the right actions to limit her damage, that is, to take time to process and until she leaves the territory that is defended to be constantly processed and thus the damage will be much smaller", said Nikola Kovachev - director of the training ground for combating hailstorms – Popovica.

Farmers want hail missile sites reorganized for better coverage.

"Last year, hail also fell near us, it destroyed our vineyards, I simply don't see any other solution but to build a hail protection site here,' commented another victim.

"Where it is really necessary for a better success rate to move to a new base, but this is a very complicated process that requires time and, first of all, a very accurate analysis,", said Nikola Kovachev.

During the hailstorm on April 25, according to the Agency's data, nearly 1,100 rockets were fired in the country, which reduced the size of the ice chunks. According to the specialists, this was the only option for action.
